Tawaf consists of seven circuits around the Kaaba, beginning and ending in line with the Black Stone. Keep the Kaaba to your left and move counter-clockwise with the flow of pilgrims.
Before starting
- Confirm that you meet the religious requirements for the Tawaf you intend to perform.
- Choose a level and route appropriate to your health and mobility.
- Agree on a meeting point if travelling with a group.
- Secure valuables and keep emergency contact information with you.
During the seven circuits
Count each completed circuit carefully. Worship with calmness, avoid pushing, keep entrances and wheelchair paths clear, and follow security instructions. There is no need to force your way toward the Black Stone.
Supplication
You may remember Allah and make appropriate supplications during Tawaf. Do not endanger yourself or others to follow a booklet or phone screen in a dense crowd.
After Tawaf
Complete the acts connected to your particular rite according to reliable guidance. If you lose count, break your wudu, become unwell or face another uncertainty, ask an authorised scholar or guide.
